Father's Day Art Project

Sam suggested we paint a series of paintings for dad for father's day. After several days of deliberation, we decided on and composited a masterwork to (hopefully) present to him tomorrow.

Update: John came up with the idea for the final design - four F-22 jets in formation following an F-15 - as a representation of our chosen theme, "Follow Me Boys". John found some images of the jets on the internet, we pulled a satellite photo of a random location (which turned out to be southeast Kansas) from Google maps, and I composited them all in Photoshop. From Photoshop, we split the picture into 4 frames, which we printed, drew grids over, then sketched on 4 full size canvasses. John, Sam, Joseph and I all painted on every canvass. We took it in turns, each painting on one canvass for half an hour. At the end of that period we would each pass the canvass we were working to the person on the left. That continued all evening long until we were finished.

San Antonio temple

The John, Sam and I did an early session in the new San Antonio temple today, while Joe did baptisms. Dad was working there but didn't join us in the session, but he was waiting in the celestial room.

Dad Joins the Festivities

This post was inserted once I developed the following pictures.

Friday we all headed up to New Braunfels to rendevous with Dad at Schlitterbahn. It was a fun day, but the death-by-suntan float trip the day before had us feeling a little under the weather. We all wore t-shirts to protect our freshly broiled flesh, but in the end Sam cut out early for a much needed rest at home.

Yellow Belly?

No, actually it's a crispy sunburnt red belly. Except where the sun don't shine. There it's all pasty white. All four Adams boys roasted in the Texas sun today as we tubed down the Guadalupe river. Every one of us got sunburned to one degree or another. Sam is lobster red all over. John has the nice line of demarkation on his belly shown above.

Update: Finally developed photos from the float. Following are a select few.

Worst Bar-B-Q in Texas

While in Texas, I had to have at least eat Texas BBQ at least one time. Sam suggested Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q, the self proclaimed "Worst Bar-B-Q in Texas". I had never been to Rudy's or anything like it, despite living in San Antonio for 3 years and visiting numerous times since. At Rudy's, the meat is slow smoked, and sold by the pound.

Anyways, we invited cousin Quentin to join us and ordered copious quantites of meat. Quentin apparently didn't understand the instructions we gave him and ended up ordering his own meal before we could find him. Despite our best efforts, we ended up with quite a bit of leftovers, which Quentin took home with him after a little arm twisting. I didn't find Rudy's the worst BBQ in Texas, although their ribs are too peppery (sorry Dad).Posted by Hello

Bathing Beauties

We caught the last 15 minutes of pool time before the community pool closed. Turned out to be just right for us, Sage, Fielding, and Enoch.

Episode III

John hadn't seen Episode III yet, so we took the opportunity to escape the afternoon heat and see it again.

Frisbee golf

I learned that frisbee golf in Austin in June is a good way to get really sweaty and lots of bloody scratches on my legs from searching for wayward frisbees in the scrub oak. Results of the match: 2 frisbees lost, 1 new one found.

Enoch

Just met my newest nephew Enoch.

Arrived in Austin

This grainy photo is a tribute to Handspring's cost cutting efforts in the camera department. I just arrived in Austin for and was picked up at the airport by my brothers.

Going mobile

Some of the blogs I read post from their mobile phone. Since I happen to have a fancy Treo 600 with a keyboard, I thought I would give blogging a try. This post is from my desk, but via my phone. Nifty.
