Rock Star

Last Saturday my band performed in our ward Variety Show. I sang lead and played bass and guitar. Note the Primary mosh pit in the videos below:

First song was a medley of Elton John songs (Tiny Dancer, Your Song and Yellow Brick Road) our bassist Ben arranged:

I switched instruments with Ben, and so played bass and sang. Much to my chagrin, I discovered that the low E string on my bass had gone flat since the sound check in the morning, so I had to adjust the tuning on the fly.

Second song was "Just What I Needed" by The Cars. I switched to guitar:

Last song was "All These Things I've Done" by The Killers:

Susanna's Sealing

Susanna's Sealing

10-year anniversary

San Juan Island 2007

Jenna and I took the week before Susanna's sealing off to celebrate our 10-year-anniversary. We left the kids with Grandma Parker and had a full couple of days on San Juan Island off the coast of Victoria, BC.

Tia Becky in Cali

Tia Becky

After spending most of the month of July in Utah, we invited Becky to finish out the month with us. She was here for Susanna's adoption, the longest SF excursion we've ever spent (got home past 11pm), a balmy drive over the mountains to the frigid, foggy beach, and even got to meet Susanna's birth mom.

Yosemite

Yosemite 2007

After seven years of never quite getting it together to make it to Yosemite National Park, this year we finally did it. It required getting up early and manning the computer in January (six months before the actual trip, when reservations become available), but we were able to secure prime camping spots on the valley floor for ourselves and three other families in the ward.

We spent two nights and had lots of fun.

IDEO Picnic

Following the Primary temple trip we headed to Flood Park in Menlo Park for the annual IDEO picnic. This year's theme was Sweet Tea Jamboree, which meant lots of southern food and Cajun music. Posted by Picasa

It also meant kids activities, including music . . .

. . . eating . . .

. . . face painting . . .

. . . eating . . .

Who knew Abby would be such a big fan of mussels.

. . . biting balloons to hear them pop . . .

. . . hanging from fingertips . . .

. . . and swinging.

It's enough to wear any kid out.

Primary Temple Trip (May 19)

Abby's primary had a trip to the temple the morning of the IDEO picnic. The temple was hopping that Saturday morning and we had to park down the hill behind the temple.

While the primary caught some shorter movies and a tour or two, the rest of us saw the new Joseph Smith movie. After the movie was done, the sister missionaries opened the doors, and as Jenna and I assembled our paraphenalia we realized that Louisa had escaped. I found her around the corner peeking out from behind a display.

First Trip to the Beach (May 15)

The girls headed to the beach with some friends, much to my surprise (I can count the number of time's I've been able to persuade Jenna to accompany Abby and I to the beach on two fingers). I recommended San Gregorio Beach, a nice little spot halfway between San Francisco and Santa Cruz with a slow moving river that empties into the Pacific (and is significantly warmer than the ocean).
